In December 2020 there was a fairly large tide, only 2-3 houses were flood in water. However, in December 2021, only 2-3 houses were not flood. In another house, the floor of the house is flood in water up to 10 – 20 cm with a high tide that can reach 2.4 meters.
People can’t do much, because most houses don’t store their things in the wardrobe, but just put them on the floor. It’s been 3 days since this incident happened, even though it only lasted 3 hours but it was enough to bother them. Plus many goods stuff were washed away by the overflowing river water.
According to those who have lived in Muara Ulu Besar for more than 30 years, something they do not understand. Especially after this high tide, many community ponds have broken embankments. So that the shrimp and fish in it are all gone.
The various possible causes are:
a) the impact of melting polar icebergs due to global warming,
b) conversion of mangrove forests into ponds on a large scale which causes fewer canals/waterways,
c) the impact of oil mining that has been going on for decades, and currently the target of drilling Pertamina oil wells is drilling with a target in 2022 of 96 development wells and 2 exploration wells, which causes the potential for subsidence of the earth’s surface in the Mahakam Delta. Or a combination of these three factors.
It’s just that the community does not have the capacity to understand it or negotiate with the related parties so they can only surrender. Incidents like this are not a concern from the government, even though it could happen in the future, there is a possibility that the Muara Ulu Besar orchard will be submerged.
