Participatory Forest Monitoring Training in the Mahakam Delta

Participatory forest monitoring is a monitoring activity involving local communities in its implementation. Titian Lestari Foundation and @globalforests encourage three Forest Farmer Groups (KTH) in Delta Mahakam to conduct participatory monitoring and record every land clearing that has been occurred. These three KTHs are representative of every sub-district in the Mahakam Delta, namely KTH Genting Lestari (Anggana District), KTH Ramah Lingkungan (Muara Badak District), and KTH Lestari Alam Indah (Muara Jawa District). Global Forest Watch uses the GLAD Alert “early warning” system, providing information on deforestation in the Mahakam Delta.

For two days, 8-9 January 2022 local time, Titian Lestari Foundation held a mangrove forest monitoring training attended by several extensionists from the@kphp_deltamahakam. On the first day of the activity, KTH members were provided with theories about monitoring and the applications to be used. Then on the second day, the members of KTHs did monitoring practices facilitated by Bumi Badak Bestari Community in Muara Badak.

This mangrove forest monitoring uses the Survey123 platform from @EsriIndonesia. This platform is an easy tool to collect data using simple and efficient forms. The efficiency of this form makes the survey creation, sharing, and analysis process possible in just three easy steps: ask a question – create an easy and targeted form – and the last step is to load the data obtained into the ArcGIS application for analysis.
